A Korean MP3 player with RFID buys your train ticket

In what may be termed as an unique idea, a Korean company has come up with a digital audio player with an embedded RFID smart card that can be used to get on board the Korean public transportation system. Noting the fact that many commuters carry a MP3 player to listen to music while traveling on trains, Hyunwon, maker of MP3 player Mobiblue, decided that combining the player with a RFID chip could make it easier for these music lovers to get into a train by simply rubbling the player against the reader at the station.

The new player is called MobiBlue DAH-1800T model. This isn't the first time that an electronic appliance has used the RFID chip. The swiss watch company Swatch has wrist watches that come with an RFID chip. Similarly, Samsung and LG have mobile phones with traffic RFID chip. The maker of this innovative player said the idea occurred after they realized there was no more room for growth in the MP3 player market. Now it remains to be seen what more new ideas can the electronic companies come up to improvise on this latest device. times.hankooki.com reports:

"There is a limit to growth in the MP3 player market, so we are making players with new ideas," said the company's public relations official Jung Yong-sun, adding that the company is planning to market more multi-use products in the future. Several other electronic appliances have been using the RFID traffic payment system.
